Grad Requirements

Graduation Ceremony Requirements
  1. Complete diploma requirements (see below)
  2. Have no more than 2 failing semester grades in the senior year
  3. Have no more than 10 absences (excused or unexcused) per period per class per semester of the senior year
  4. Have no more than 1 suspension for any reason during senior year
  5. Pay all obligations prior to the last 2 weeks of the second semester of the senior year
*Students must also participate in rehearsal, be enrolled in their 8th semester of high school (unless there are extenuating circumstances), and have a signed participation form on file in the school office

APPEALS PROCESS

  • Appeals must be submitted in writing to the student's counselor or an administrator no later than 10 working days after the excessive absence notice is received
  • The appeals committee will review all written appeals; the committee's decisions are final
  • If appeal is denied, the student will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony


Diploma Requirements

1. Complete 220 credits

  • English – 4yrs/40 credits
  • Math – 2 years/20 credits
  • Science – 2 years/20 credits
  • Social studies – 3 years/30 credits
  • Fine arts (or foreign language) – 1 year/10 credits
  • Practical arts – 1 year/10 credits
  • PE – 2 years/20 credits
  • Computers – 1 semester/5 credits
  • Health – 1 semester/5 credits

2. Complete 45 hours of community service

3. Pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)

Senior Privilege Card
This is a privilege granted only to eligible seniors, permitting them to leave campus at lunch. To apply for a Senior Privilege Card, the student's parent or guardian must come to the Student Services Office and sign the "parent request" form. Requests are taken during the first two weeks of each quarter only.

Criteria
  • Senior (Class of 2013)
  • Have accumulated 160 units and scheduled to graduate in June
  • No more than 10 tardies or 5 unexcused absences during any 9-week grading period
  • Minimum of 2.0 GPA
  • Not identified as having willfully shown disrespect to any SPHS employee/neighbor/community, or been involved in making fake senior privilege cards
